What To Do If You Smell Gas

What to do if you smell propane gas or think there might be a gas leak.

Extinguish all smoking materials and any other open flames or sources of ignition.
Move away without using any electric switches, appliances, thermostats, or telephones. Any spark or flame in the area where propane gas is present may ignite the gas.
Get everyone out of the area or home at once
Close the gas shutoff valve on the propane tank or cylinder. Tank and cylinder valves turn off in the clockwise direction. Gas valves are in the off position when the handle is perpendicular to the piping.
Call Suhre’s Gas Co. from a neighbor’s telephone.
Do not re-enter the home until our service technician or fire service personnel has done a complete inspection, repaired any leaks, and deemed its safe
